My Three Words 2020

Every year since 2015 I have selected three words to help guide me through the year.  Back in 2015 I saw a tweet from Chris Brogan about this idea and immediately felt that I could implement this exercise in my life.   It has in many ways set the lessons I needed to learn.    I can’t blame anyone for the words, I selected them.

This year, 2019, has been an adventure.   Little did I know that in February I would begin my BRCA journey that would lead to three major surgeries and finally peace of mind that I do not have to worry about Breast or Ovarian cancers.   I understand so much clearly and now I know how to judge the threats to my own health.

First off, when I was thinking of adventure I was thinking of travels with George.   I was a little leery of selecting words this year.   But I have to say that there was so much wonderful growth and understanding on my part.   We had fun in the process and George has been there every step of the way.   He made it fun by just being there.   It was an important lesson I had to learn, words can have multiple meanings.

So with that I have selected these words for 2020:  Movement, Voice and Release.    I am not quite sure where they will take me but I am confident that this will be an awesome year.   George has selected Believe, Build and Inspire.

Each word has had an impact for the year.   Just look at the past words I have used:

  • 2019 – Adventure, Discernment and Peace
    • George selected Understanding, Fun & Balance
  • 2018 – Connection, Joy & Gratitude
    • George selected Patience, Fortitude and Healing
  • 2017 – Forgiveness, Trust & Love
  • 2016 – Patience, Genuine & Steadfast (Spirituality, Growth & Faith)
  • 2015 – Fearless, Compassion & Persistence

This can be a powerful tool in your life if you choose to use it.   There has been a lot of people that think that a whole year is too long.   For me, I think it is better than doing resolutions for the year.   Why you ask…   Because these words should be used daily in your decision making.   Does what you want to do jive with these words?

The effect of these words you may see immediately, or it may be at the end of the year.   I have to tell you that these words continue to have effect years later.   In 2016 I picked Patience, each and every year since it has had an impact on my year.   In 2016 the word bought me to tears.   This year I have been reminded repeatedly during my healing process that I just have to have patience while my body heals.   This means I have great discernment of the importance of this word.

I believe in this process.   That is why I share it with you.  Keep an open mind and give it a try.    It may just be what you need to jump-start your life!
