Winter – A time to slow down

Winter is not my favorite time of the year.   I am all about spring, summer and fall.   Love those three seasons.  Winter, I am not a fan of and I was born in the winter.    Driving last month with my mentor to Erie where he was speaking we were talking about all the snow.   And we have had a lot of it and it was only the beginning of January.

It was a beautiful crisp day with blue skies.   It was bright and even though the temperature was hovering around zero I was warm and content.    As we drove along snow covered roads and the passing scenery was full of things that I don’t see during other times of the year.   A heard of dear moving in the woods, a squirrel dashing from tree to tree to the patterns of the snowmobile trails.   It all created a image in my head.  One of patterns.

The seasons have patterns for me.   Spring is all about new growth, Summer confidence building, Fall about gratitude and Winter is all about reflection for me.   Reflect upon what is and is not important.    A time to evaluate where I am and adjust the course and set out in Spring with a new plan.

I am not alone that takes the winter to regroup from a hectic period of time.   It seems that from Halloween until the Super Bowl we are on a constant run of busy.   From holiday prep to the actual holidays and then the recovery from the holidays, we are always running.   It is that time in February that we have the time to sit back and just breathe.
