Symbol, Color, & Object Reading: Messages in the Everyday
Divination isn’t always about formal tools. Sometimes Spirit speaks through symbols, colors, and objects that surround us. The patterns we notice in ribbons, flowers, or small items can reveal guidance, insight, or a gentle nudge toward awareness.
Ribbon reading holds a special place in my practice. Some ribbons come from my grandmother’s sewing basket — over fifty years old. Others I received from a ribbon salesman I met thirty years ago. Many have been gifted by students over the years. Each ribbon carries its own energy, a personal history, and Spirit knows exactly how to guide the conversation. Students often marvel at the messages they uncover while interpreting these ribbons, learning to trust their intuition and notice subtle guidance.
Flowers are another extraordinary source of insight. Their colors, shapes, and positions can speak to emotions, cycles, or inner states. Observing how petals fall, how stems curve, or even how bouquets are arranged can become a form of divination. Like ribbons, flowers offer a language that requires gentle observation and openness.
Other objects — shells, stones, charms, or everyday items — can also become portals for reflection. Tasseography, the reading of tea leaves or coffee grounds, offers symbolic messages hidden in patterns. Vision boards, sigils, or carefully arranged symbolic objects invite reflection and intuition. Spirit can communicate through placement, movement, or the essence of an object. Learning to read these cues strengthens intuition, hones awareness, and fosters a deeper connection to the world around us.
What I love about symbol, color, and object reading is its accessibility. Guidance can appear in moments of quiet reflection or in ordinary environments. There is no single “right” tool; instead, each person finds resonance in what calls to them. The key is noticing, reflecting, and trusting the subtle messages that emerge.
Reflective Question:
Which object, color, or symbol has recently caught your attention, and what do you feel it might be telling you?
