The Belief That Holds You Back as a Medium
One of the biggest obstacles to developing mediumship is not a lack of ability. The belief that you can’t is often the very thing that holds you back as a medium.
Over the years, I have watched countless students convince themselves they cannot connect with Spirit. Before they even begin, they have already decided the outcome. They dismiss impressions as imagination and explain away meaningful experiences as coincidence. Any uncertainty becomes proof that they are not gifted.
The real obstacle is not Spirit’s willingness to communicate. The obstacle is the constant inner dialogue that drowns out the subtle messages they hope to receive.
Confidence Comes After Experience
Mediumship requires trust. You build that trust one small experience at a time, yet many students wait for certainty before they allow themselves to believe. They want unmistakable evidence before taking the next step. Ironically, that expectation is exactly what holds them back.
Imagine learning to ride a bicycle while insisting you never wobble. You would never leave the driveway. Mediumship develops much the same way. Every experienced medium has questioned themselves at some point. Most have wondered whether they imagined what they received. Confidence does not come first. Experience builds confidence.
I often tell my students that the greatest skeptic in the room usually sits in their own chair. They are not struggling against Spirit. They are struggling against years of conditioning that taught them intuition could not be trusted unless logic explained it.
Replace Judgment with Curiosity
Spirit rarely communicates through dramatic visions or booming voices. More often, communication begins with a fleeting image, a quiet thought, an unexpected emotion, or a subtle knowing that seems almost too ordinary to matter. Students often overlook these moments because they have already convinced themselves they cannot be genuine.
Instead of asking, *”Why can’t I do this?”* ask yourself, *”What if this impression deserves my attention?”* That simple shift replaces judgment with curiosity. Curiosity expands awareness, while judgment shuts it down before it has a chance to grow.
If you have convinced yourself that you cannot connect with Spirit, ask whether that belief is protecting you or simply holding you back. The stories we repeat become the limits we accept. Change the story, stay curious, and give yourself permission to learn. Mediumship grows through practice, patience, and the willingness to trust yourself one impression at a time.
