Early in my development, I learned quickly how convincing my own thoughts could sound when I wanted to help. The desire to get it right, to be useful, and to ease discomfort can quietly influence what comes through. That realization changed how I approach mediumship.
Mediumship requires openness, but it also requires discipline. Messages move through a human filter shaped by experience, emotion, and belief. Discernment is what keeps that filter clean. Without it, projection can slip in unnoticed.
Projection happens when personal thoughts, hopes, or assumptions get mistaken for spirit communication. It rarely comes from dishonesty. More often, it comes from caring deeply. Wanting clarity, reassurance, or resolution can subtly guide interpretation if it is not examined.
Discernment creates a pause. It asks the medium to notice what arises without immediately assigning meaning. Over time, I learned that clarity improves when I allow space for uncertainty. Silence does not weaken the message. It refines it.
Learning to Stay Out of the Way
I have found that projection increases when I feel rushed or emotionally invested. When I slow down, ground myself, and stay present in my body, the information feels different. It arrives with less effort and more neutrality.
Discernment also means knowing when not to speak. Not every sensation carries a message. Not every image needs interpretation. Learning restraint strengthened my confidence more than constant validation ever could.
Mediumship matures through reflection and honest self-review. I regularly ask myself whether I am translating or filling in gaps. That question keeps the work ethical and clear.
Spirit does not need embellishment. It needs a steady channel. When discernment leads and projection is acknowledged without shame, trust deepens on both sides of the connection.
