I Stand With Ukraine

I Stand With Ukraine

It is a simple statement “I Stand With Ukraine” yet what does that really mean?  As an Ordained Minister, it means much. The phrase has haunted me for days, unsure of what I can do to make a difference.  This morning I saw a posting from Dr. Wladimir Klitschko this morning on Linkedin:

I expressly appeal to the world’s spiritual leaders to take a stand and assume the moral function that is incumbent upon them and to proudly assume the responsibility of their religions for peace.  Thus, I turn to His Holiness Pope Francis, Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed El-Tayeb, Dailai Lama, Chief Rabbi of Israel David Baruch Lau and invite them to come to Kyiv to show their solidarity with the Ukrainian people, to show their compassion and to join together in the spirit of harmony that my country and the whole world needs.

It reminded me of my commitment to serve God, to spread love and care for our fellow man.   Not every Spiritual Leader can go to the Ukraine and show their solidarity with the Ukraine in such a public way.   We can however, help those that follow us.  I do not have a church of my own, but I do have you my readers.

Over the years, I have written about things that are close to my heart and it has been my hope I have helped some learn compassion, become more loving and improve the world in one way or another.   The understanding of fellow man is so important.

How Do Individuals Help?

First off, I struggle with this question myself.   It is clear to me that we must implore those that represent us at our government to help the Ukrainian people.    We must speak up against all sorts of aggression, from the smallest to the largest.   Bullies like Putin must be stopped.   They count on our fear to obtain their goals.   I should know, my life I have been surrounded by them.   It is when you stand up to them that you find your strength.

Some people are finding ways to cope in this stressful time by sharing good stories or positive posts like I do on social media.   Just this morning I saw a Tweet of families leaving strollers for mothers coming from Ukraine.   Amplifying such love in times of stress is one way.

Others are volunteering time to create care packages to go directly to help the refugees.  There are countless stories of people helping.   Organizations like UNICEF  and the Red Cross are good to donate to.  I have also seen people volunteering and joining their army.  We each can do something.

I Stand With Ukraine

The Ukrainian people need help now, not tomorrow.   I swell full of Polish pride as I watch the people of Poland.  They are opening their hearts and homes to the many refugees.   They understand that if the Ukraine falls, they are next in Putin’s path yet, they help.   That is the face of compassion and love for fellow man.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is an example of the people of the Ukraine.   Not afraid to stand up to a bully.  He, like his people, are in danger if we continue to stand by and watch.   Sanctions are not enough.

This is an open invitation to you to start to pressure our representatives starting with President Biden, the House of Representatives and our State Senators to do better.   The only way we can communicate that is by letting them know our wishes.   Donate your time or money.   If all you can do is spread some positivity that is awesome.

Please don’t judge others who don’t the world is too full of negativity.   Compassion for fellow man is what is important.  Worry about what you do and how you make this world a better place.  Right now all the attention is going to the Ukraine, if you choose to do something local that is good too!
