Here is #14 in a series of an occasional sharing of an “inspirational” song. We put “inspirational” in quotes because this will not necessarily be not in the traditional sense, like something you might sing in church. We welcome you to message us with what songs inspire you.
The band Mr. Mister hit it Really Big in 1985 with their second album Welcome to the Real World, which contained two Number One singles, “Broken Wings” and “Kyrie.” Both of this songs most definitely have a spiritual side, “Kyrie” in particular since it references the Kyrie eleison prayer, roughly translated from the Greek, “Lord, have mercy.” It has to have been one of the most unlikely Number One singles of the decade if not the entire Rock Era.
But their third LP, Go On, released in 1987, did not have anywhere near the success of Welcome to the Real World, and has been largely forgotten. That’s too bad. It has a number of songs which also certainly have spiritual overtones, among them “Stand And Deliver,” “Control,” “Something Real (Inside Me/Inside You)” (the only Top 40 entry from the album, “The Border,” and our selection this time, “Healing Waters.” From the searching lyrics to the chorus more than a little reminiscent of a choir, this song would not be out of place at a contemporary church service.
