My name is Colleen Irwin, and I am running for a seat on the Democratic Committee for Irondequoit ED 39. I am reaching out to you not just as a candidate, but as a fellow Irondequoit resident, and someone who deeply cares about the future of our community.

Monroe County is at a crossroads, and we need fresh perspectives and genuine passion to navigate the challenges ahead. I believe in a community where every voice is heard, where transparency is paramount, and where we work together to create positive change. This isn’t just about politics; it’s about building a better future for all of us.

What is the Irondequoit Democratic Committee?

Committee members serve for two years without a salary. It is a voluntary role of dedication and service to our community. Citizens who can and are able to serve in our democracy should do so, as it ensures our government truly reflects the people it represents.

One of the significant challenges our current committee faces is limited diversity of ideas and perspectives, creating an environment where decisions may not reflect the true needs of our community. I am committed to bringing an independent voice, free from familial ties, to ensure impartiality and fairness in decisions made for our county residents.

About Colleen:

I live in Laurelton with my husband and stepson, and I am the primary caregiver to my mother-in-law with dementia. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges many of us face daily.

I work as a consultant, helping others with leadership, time management, project focus, vision definition, motivation, planning, and empathy. As a retired REALTOR and Broker, I understand the complexities of buying and selling real estate.  In 2019, I became a Previvor, fighting cancer before it starts. Additionally, I am a professional speaker and an independent spiritualist minister.

Over the years, I have connected with many people, understanding their hopes, fears, and aspirations. I want to bring these unique perspectives to our town and county, ensuring that every decision made is informed by the real needs and dreams of our community members.

I am committed to:

    • Inclusivity: Creating platforms where every person, regardless of background, can voice their opinions and be part of the decision-making process.
    • Transparency: Ensuring that all our actions are open and accountable, fostering trust and collaboration.
    • Listening to You: Keeping an open line of communication to understand what truly matters to you.

As this is a local election, there will not be a lot of voters at the polls, which means your vote carries even more weight. Your support is crucial to ensure change and bring a fresh perspective to the committee.  I am not just asking for your vote; I am also asking for your support, your ideas, and your partnership, to help the county thrive on unity, respect, and shared goals.

Please feel free to reach out to me at colleen@irwinsjournal.com to hear your thoughts, answer any questions, and discuss how we can work together to make our community even better.

If you feel left out of government like I do, please vote for me on June 25th!  Thanks for your time and consideration. Let’s make this journey together and create a brighter future for our community.
