An Open Letter to the Democratic Party

To the Leaders, Committee Members and Members of the Democratic Party,

It is time to face reality. The people who elected you are watching, and many of us are losing faith.

We see the Republican Party openly embracing corruption, grifting, and self-interest. But let’s be honest—Democrats are not immune to the same behavior. You claim to stand for the people, yet time and again, we see self-preservation take precedence over principle. You protect your own, excuse inaction, and allow bureaucracy to stall real progress. Meanwhile, the people who put you in office continue to struggle, waiting for leadership that feels more than performative.

We need representation, not excuses. We need courage, not political calculus within the Democratic Party. What we need are leaders who serve the people, not their own interests. That includes every elected official, committee member, and decision-maker within the party. If you continue to put power over purpose, you will lose the trust of the very people you rely on to stay in office.

The time for playing it safe is over. Start acting like the representatives we elected you to be—or step aside for those who will.

Sincerely,

Colleen Irwin
Member of the Irondequoit Democratic Committee
