As Memorial Day is Monday, I have been flooded with memories of messages from those that have passed in service to our country.   This past year there have been many.  Remember, I am a Medium, which gives me a unique perceptive on the topic.   Both my mother’s parents served in the Military during World War II and I have countless friends that have served during their lives in the Military. From a very young age I was taught respect for these holidays.

What is Memorial Day?

It can be confusing.   I hear my own grandfather complaining that people do not understand the differences between the holidays.   Just a reminder that this Monday is Memorial Day – often confused with Veterans Day – but sadly so different.

Memorial Day is a tribute to those who went off to serve but devastatingly did not return. Let’s remember the fallen men and women who have lost their lives to protect our freedoms. To their families much love on this day of remembrance.
Thank you to everyone who currently serves on our armed forces and love to all the families who wait for them to come home. To those Veterans out there — Thank you for your service.

A breakdown of these days of remembrance and honor are as follows:

  • Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.
  • Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces.   Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May.
  • Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.
